1942 Wedding Video

This couple was married on this date in 1942...and had the forethought to have it filmed.  What a treasure.

e%20blog.jpg

On to my next Blog fave...the blog of photographer, Eric Laurits.  Many of you blog stalkers may remember not too long ago Eric took some photos that have been said make Liz and I look like rock stars, supermodels, etc (ok...maybe I made up the supermodel one, but I sure felt like one that day).  Check a few of em out...

Me! (little do you know, about a foot and a half below my grin was a basketball belly...6 months pregnant!)

He's not just headshots either (although, as you can see, he can take fantastic headshots)...he is also an amazing wedding photog.  Here are a couple of my favorites that I totally hijacked off his blog, I'm sure he won't mind.

"Been There Done That" Wedding Tip

Alicia's%20wedding.jpgAs the weather warms up here in New England that means wedding season is upon us and it's been a while since I've offered one of our "Been There Done That" wedding tips, so, the wait is over...

For those of you getting married in a church, there is a moment when the doors at the back of the church open and your friends, family, and hubby to be will see you for the first time.  Usually this moment is met by tears, smiles, and flash bulbs going off like crazy.  This IS the moment!  Well, from our point of view, it's also one of the moments that has the most impact in your video, and I'm sure our photographer friends will agree, it's a shot not to be missed.  Those doors opening is a priceless part of the day, that you 9 times out of 10 will never rememeber because of nerves, excitement, or that age old affliction...bridal amnesia.  That's why we're there, to capture that for you. Well, there are a few things that make that "WOW" moment not so fantastic in photos and video.  Here they are:

-  We know that the limo driver and the church lady and anyone else with good intentions all mean well and want to help you keep your dress clean for that walk down the aisle.  But, tell them to "PUT DOWN THE DRESS!" before those doors open.  Well meaning people who will do the dress fluff just before your first step down the aisle are now in your photos and video of that "IT" moment.  You will have a forever memory of Dave's Limo Service or Gertrude the old churchlady in those shots.

-On to other well meaning people...your relatives.  You'd be amazed how many times we are read the riot act when we step into a church about where we can stand, that we are not allowed to move at all, and that we had better never step in the aisle.  Well...your relatives were never given that same rule book.  We have had a well intentioned aunt step in front of our camera more times than we can count to get her own shot of that "WOW" moment (see above)...and we miss it.  So, it's always a good idea to talk to your officiant about any rules that they have, and any rules of the church waaaaay ahead of time, and explain to them how important video and photo coverage is of your wedding.  Sometimes a compromise can be reached...and if not, at least you know the rules ahead of time and can relay them to us and your photographer so a plan of attack can be formulated prior to the big day.

-We completely understand how important it is for all your family and friends to hear to say your vows....but don't let your officiant hold a microphone right in front of your face!  Think about the local news, and where they hold the mic, about 6 inches below their chin, and you can hear them great, right?  That's as close as that mic needs to be.  This would be something to remind them of at the rehearsal...make them practice with the mic!!  Who wants your faces blocked by a big mic looking like a segment on American Idol during your vows?  The thought of it kills me.

-Blocking the bride...that could be talked about all day long...  If you are having floral arrangements brought to the church by your florist, tell them to stand on the aisle to the far right and far left of where you'll be standing with your hubby, and make sure those flowers aren't blocking the view of you from any angle when they place the arrangements on the altar.  If we or your photog are told to stand in one location by your officiant, and it happens to be a spot blocked by flowers, we have to do some covert moves to try to get the shots and not get chastised by the church in the middle of your ceremony. (Which we have seen happen before...not to us thank goodness).

-BLocking the bride part 2...If you are having your lovely bridesmaids and groomsmen stand with you on the altar, tell them NOT to lean over to see the ring exchange.  Those curious groomsmen are usually the ones to blame for this one...trust me, we've seen it half a dozen times.  We have the perfect shot lined up your hubby puts the ring to your finger, and his best friend bob leans over to see what's going on in front of the other two groomsmen in front of him.  There ya go...great shot of Bobs head...not so great shot of your ring exchange.

I know, I know...more things to remember in your already swirling brain, but if you don't remember to mention these things now...you'll never forget them for the rest of your life everytime you look at your wedding photos and video!  Ok, that's all for now.  I'd love to post more "Been There Done That" tips from all our blog stalkers out there (you know who you are!), so shoot me an email and I'll post your tip!  jen at ftpweddings.com

Blog Fave

JSC%20Blog.jpg   The first blog fave I have to share with you is actually the very first blog I had ever been to.  I didn't even understand the whole blogging thing when I stumbled upon Jessica Claire, the southern California photographer.  Her images jumped off the page.  Colors that were just amazing.  And new posts with new images a couple times a week!  The perfect recipe for the beginning of a blog addiction!

Her blog has undergone some transformations since I first visited a few years ago, but it's still signature Jessica, and I'm still hooked.  Check out her blog here:

Blog-a-holic Confession

Ok, so the first step to recovery is admitted you have a problem, right?  Well, I am a self confessed Blog-a-holic.  I know I've probably mentioned this before, but I just can't help myself.  Blogs are the best kind of website, always being updated with new content and a never ending look into the lives of others.  Well, some of my favorite blogs are all about...yup, you guessed it...weddings.  You see, I'm a self confesssed wed-a-holic too.  Ok, I'm making up these words, but the condition is real just the same.  So what I've decided to do is pass the blogs I love onto you, because I figure why keep all the good stuff to myself!  So starting tomorrow, I'll blog about one of my favorite blogs every week...till I run out, and who knows when that'll be!

So for now, let's focus on how to find great blogs.  According to the stats for this blog, our readers find us in a variety of places.  We are listed on a bunch of blog directories, we come up under google searches, and we are even nominated on the bloggers choice awards website.  So the moral of the story is, blogs are everywhere, you just have to look, and the best part is one good blog will always lead you to another through it's blogroll or links in it's posts.  Oh and don't forget to subscribe to our RSS feed to be the first to know when I post updates!
